TEACHING

I offer private lessons in concert percussion, timpani, drum set, snare, mallets (glockenspiel, vibes, xylo, marimba), beginner voice, beginning-intermediate classical piano, pop/jazz piano and music theory. I am comfortable teaching all ages (5-95). I believe that anyone at any age can grow while gaining physical, emotional, and mental health benefits from playing music!

In addition to teaching private lessons, I currently teach at South Hills High School and more in the Southern California Area. In the past, I have also taught at POW Percussion, Temple City High School, Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps, A.C. Davis High School, and more.

PHILOSOPHY

I approach music with a holistic mindset: with work ethic and discipline, yet also empathy and passion from the student's perspective. In my eyes, music is one of the music integrative arts because it forces the individuals to learn and develop using their eyes, ears, and body, and with that, it can allow any type of learner to both be challenged AND have ease in one aspect or another. I have studied privately with great teachers for the last nine years, and have performed in a wide genre range consistently throughout my whole career thus far, and my great experiences with my mentors gives me both great role models embody--but also a drive to give that same energy back to my students that they gave to me. I believe that I will never graduate from being a student and learner. I have experience and passion performing solo percussion repertoire (marimba, snare, multi-percussion, timpani), chamber percussion music, marching arts (both battery and front ensemble), orchestral work, jazz drums, singing, classical and jazz piano, and more.

In my nine years of actively playing, performing, and teaching, I find that cultivating warm communities and inner growth are the most gratifying and influential things that any musician can do.

TEACHING STYLE

I begin with first getting to know the student and their goals. Upon learning their goals and how their brain functions, I move on to create a personalized curriculum based around the fundamentals in whatever goal they want to achieve. I aim to create a balance of materials between developing standard repertoire as well as working on the student's real passions.

CURRICULUM

Student texts and materials are supplemented on a case-by-case basis, determined by the student's goals and instrument. Listed below are the books recommended for different instruments, however that may change depending on the student's goals. I use Google Drive to organize and scan documents for my online students. I also include a Lesson Summary after every lesson for clarity of goals, concepts, homework, and communication!
